RETURN_TO_RELEASES_INDEX

A focused four-track Gearwatcher EP with atmosphere and propulsion.

Another Day captures a brighter version of the Gearwatcher approach: soulful and uplifting rather than introspective and melancholic. It is also one of the rare instances where there is no genre-bending even in mid-sized releases, the project stays firmly within drum and bass territory with breakbeat-driven tracks that still carry the project’s signature sense of space and atmosphere.

What distinguishes Another Day from harder Gearwatcher material is its sense of restraint. There is weight and movement throughout, but nothing is pushed past the point of control. The tracks breathe without losing momentum. The material borrows from the bygone era of Soul:R drum and bass with its echoes of dub and detroit techno over a soulful dnb foundation, and is probably the most open hommage to one of Gearwatcher’s musical heroes, late Marcus Intalex.
